A new independent report shows more local steel is being used on NSW Government infrastructure projects across the state.

It reveals over the past two financial years around 75 per cent of steel used in major projects was sourced locally.
Minister for Finance, Services and Property Victor Dominello said the report into steel usage shows the NSW Government is delivering on a promise made in April to improve quality standards, industry certification and transparency in steel procurement.
Mr Dominello said it had done that and supported the local steel industry by procuring the overwhelming majority of steel in its own backyard.
He said this was coming at a time when the state is booming and the NSW Government is delivering a multi-billion dollar pipeline of infrastructure projects that will continue to benefit the local steel industry.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra and South Coast Gareth Ward invited the minister to the Wollongong Innovation Campus to meet with local industry stakeholders in March and said “I am very pleased that these historic reforms will improve quality standards, industry certification and transparency in steel procurement”.
“I will continue to be a strong advocate for our Illawarra steel industry and for the use of locally sourced steel in major infrastructure projects,” Mr Ward said.
