At around 8.30pm, Fire and Rescue NSW crews rushed to Hamilton Street, Fairy Meadow, where they found a room on fire.
Fire and Rescue NSW Inspector John Hawes said crews were able to contain the fire to one bedroom but the house sustained “significant smoke damage”.
Insp Hawes said ambulance crews treated two women for smoke inhalation, with an elderly woman taken to hospital.
He said the fire started because of an unattended candle in the bedroom of the house.
Insp Hawes advised people shouldn’t leave candles and other open flames – including outdoor barbecues – unattended.
He also said people should be careful when setting up Christmas lights.
“Don’t overload your power points and have powerboards with surge protection,” Insp Hawes said.
