World Environment Day is a United Nations initiative aimed at encouraging worldwide awareness, access and action for the protection of our environment. It started in 1974 and is now widely celebrated and support across 100 countries.
WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY
In class we have been learning about sustainability.
We have learnt a lot about sustainability and have found out how important this topic is.
We want everyone to find out how serious this is.
We are not talking about New South Wales, we are talking about the world!
Animals are becoming endangered and soon extinct.
It’s not just the animals we’re affecting it’s us and the environment.
It’s easy to make a difference in being sustainable.
It’s so easy to turn the lights, air con or fans off when you leave the room.
I hope you understand us.
Yours, Evie and Tahlia
PROTECT ANIMALS
Can you please tell other people to save water, electricity and throw rubbish in the bin and not the ocean.
Also tell people to not kill animals.
People should not destroy animal homes.
Yours, Lara
KEEP OUR LOVELY WORLD
I don’t like all the rubbish in our environment and I want to make a change.
We need everyone’s help to keep our lovely world.
We want your help.
Can you place an article asking people to help the world.
Yours, Matthew
BEING SUSTAINABLE
We have been learning about sustainability. We would like you to spread the word about what’s happening to the animals.
We want everyone to know that the animals are suffering from the pollution and it is causing the animals to get sick and die.
Yours, Natalie and Maya
CARE FOR OUR PLANET
Our names are Mia, Eden and Gemma and we are eight years old.
We have been learning about sustainability and how we can care for our lovely planet.
A few examples are saving water and energy and recycle and reduce rubbish.
However, reducing rubbish is not going so well.
We have polluted our lovely beaches and have destroyed our wonderful environment by rubbish.
If we continue this we will kill the animals and it will get worse and worse and worse.
Yours, Eden, Gemma and Mia
DON'T LITTER
My name is Dustyn and I do not like it when people litter or cut down trees,
Please put an article in to make people look after the environment and pick up after themselves and stop cutting down trees.
Yours, Dustyn
ED’S REPLY: Thank you to the students from Stella Maris Catholic School in Shellharbour for sending in your letters to the editor.
Hopefully it will add to the global message of caring for and protecting the world we live in.
With young people like you learning valuable lessons like this, we think the Illawarra and the world is in pretty safe hands.
Again, thanks for taking the time to send us your letters and have a safe and enjoyable summer break.
Regards, Julian O’Brien, editor.
