This prestigious honour is afforded only to the students who achieved a result in the highest band (Band 6 or Band E4) in 10 or more units of courses in their current pattern of study.
Illawarra was represented in this list by Smiths Hill High School students Serena Gao, Stephanie Lam and Elinor Stephenson.
The Illawarra Grammar School (TIGS) students Hannah Reveley and Yong (Peter) Zhong also featured on the All-round achievers’ list.
Yong, more commonly referred to as Peter, said he was ‘’exhilarated’’ with how he went and was very optimistic about what lay ahead in his future.
The 18-year-old received the highest band possible for all six of his subjects – Physics, Economics, Chemistry, Maths Extension 1 & 2 as well as English as a Second Language.
And while he expects to do very well in the ATAR, when results are announced on Friday, Peter already knows he will most probably be in the US next year.
‘’If I get accepted into the University of Pennsylvania, that’s where I will go,’’ he said.
The private Ivy League research university located in the University City section of Philadelphia is renowned for its engineering and business departments.
‘’I’m someone who is interested in technology and entrepreneurship. I think that’s where my skills can best developed. I’ll have more opportunity to explore those fields in the US,’’ he said.
Fellow TIGS student Hannah Reveley though plans to stay closer to home next year and take up a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics degree at the University of Wollongong.
The 17-year-old received the highest band possible in five of her six HSC subjects – Biology, Chemistry, English Advanced, Maths Advanced and PDHPE.
‘’I was particularly happy to get a score of 98 for Biology,’’ Hannah said.
‘’I’m really blessed to have been a part of TIGS who have prepared me for the HSC as well as they did. I’m very thankful to them.’’
Hundreds of other Illawarra students were on the distinguished achievers’ list.
Smiths Hill High School was one of the region’s best performers with 72 on this list as well as two First in Course recipients and three on the All-round achievers’ list.
St Mary Star of the Sea College (52) and Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts (WHSPA) also did well.
