A new workers insurance claims service model for NSW is effective from January 1, 2018 – all NSW employers require work insurance to protect their workers and business against workplace injury or illness.
icare was created in 2015 by the NSW government to deliver the state’s insurance and care schemes. Now a new and improved service delivery model, with Employers Mutual Limited (EML) as the single claims agent for the NSW workers’ compensation scheme is effective January 1, 2018.
With no changes to the way your icare workers insurance premium is calculated, from January 1 all new work-related injuries will go to insurer EML via their portal or by phone, email or fax unless as a large business they have elected to stay with their existing insurer for a period of six months. These insurers will be GIO and Allianz who will continue as scheme agents during this transition period for the management of existing claims until December 31, 2018.

Ten years ago there were more than 142,000 reported employment injuries but in the last 10 years this number has almost halved – a remarkable statistic given Australia’s growing population and workforce.
Healthcare provider IOH has been one of the pioneers in this field with a holistic approach to workplace safety through training, risk management consultancy and rehabilitation services.
“The cost of illness to industry is estimated to be 10 times the cost of work-related injuries,” director Linda Hogg said. “IOH has proven that without suitable policies, procedures and a responsive service provider, the costs of injury and illness can have a significant impact on business profitability and workers’ general well-being.
“IOH can help workplaces achieve reductions in lost productivity, workers’ compensation premiums and improve staff morale.”
Focusing primarily on physical and mental injury and disability, the IOH mission is to “empower people to realise their potential for life, work and play” and the need for a team approach to achieve these goals.
In 1984 Dr John Hogg and his wife Linda, a physiotherapist, set up the first work injury clinic called “Illawarra Occupational Health”.
In 1994 it expanded to provide treatment, rehabilitation, risk management prevention, WHS and training, the name changing to IOH – Injury and Occupational Health, expanding services to Sydney, regional NSW, nationally and overseas.
The purpose-designed facility in Wollongong has helped over 1500 clients across public and private business, federal, state and local government sectors.
IOH achieved the highest accolade in the NSW Workers Insurance Scheme for Customer Excellence, all based on customer feedback.
