Frontman Jack Jones of the latter and his counterpart Price were the envy of many women – and men – from that era with their soft and sultry sounds, and poster boy looks.
The pair have kept up their soft melodies and may be more George Clooney than boy band, but are touring Australia in 2018 and bringing hits new and old to Anita’s Theatre in Thirroul on May 10.
“Jack and I first met in the ‘90s when Southern Sons were in the charts, as I was, and we would cross paths every once in a while,” Price said. “We started to get to know each other a little bit and then in the mid-90s we started to do some acoustic tours together.”
The friendship and the musical connection was cemented with the pair always saying to each “one of these days” they should record something together.
Fast forward two decades later and finally Jones and Price have just released a covers album with their favourite “west coast California sounds” of the 1960’s and 1970’s, called Californian Dreaming.
On tour they’ll play their top picks from The Mamas and The Papas, Neil Young, The Byrds and The Doors. Though fans of their own Australian hits shouldn’t fret as songs like Not A Day Goes By and Heart In Danger will be prevalent.
“I like to revisit those songs, I’m proud of them, and I’m delighted they’ve touched people in a way that does warrant me revisiting them and playing them,” Price said.
Rick Price and Jack Jones are on tour in May 2018. They’ll play Anita’s Theatre in Thirroul as well as venues in Tamworth, Narrabri, Adelaide, Geelong, Melbourne, Sydney, Gold Coast, Canberra and concluding in Newcastle.
