It’s looking like the rain will stay away for New Year’s Eve celebrations at Belmore Basin on Sunday night, though you might want to take a blanket to protect against a stiff breeze along the coast.

When people woke on Sunday morning to dark skies and falling rain, it no doubt dampened people’s enthusiasm for the evening’s festivities.

But there is only a slight chance of rain forecast for this evening, according to Weatherzone.

By 6pm there’s just a 6 per cent chance of rain in Wollongong.

When the fireworks are set to light up the sky at 9pm, it’s tipped to be clear skies with just an 11 per cent chance of rain.

The sun will be back for New Year’s Day, with afternoon temperatures predicted to reach as high as 26 degrees, before a possible thunderstorm cools things down a bit from around 3pm.
