Keep it to only one page if possible and don’t go back in time listing jobs you had 10 years ago unless they are relevant. Only list the jobs that help to show employers the skills you have developed for the current job on offer.
You may not have worked in the particular industry before but mention any positions that show how well you work with others as part of a team or to demonstrate the necessary skills for the job you are applying for.
Stay relevant and up to date. Employers aren’t interested if you completed a course five years ago unless it relates to the current job description.
Tailor each resume to the particular job and advertised job description. For example, if the advertisement asks for the employee to be experienced with a particular software package, mention your experience using the program.
Always include all of your skills and work or even volunteer experience that are relevant to the job you’re applying for.
Look into the company you wish to work for. What do they want from an employee and how can you contribute to their business or company in the future?
Make sure there are no spelling or grammatical mistakes and that your resume is simple to read.
Put the most important information on page one such as contact details, current job title and qualifications, education and skills.
Show figures to wow employers. If you are a sales person state facts and figures that show your work accolades or successes in a positive light.
Keep things professional. Don’t include any negative information. Don’t discuss your hobbies or personal qualities and never lie.
Every resume should be sent off with a cover letter, introducing yourself and pointing out the stand-out facts from your resume.
Use only current references. Choose people that will speak highly of you in regards to your work ethic or dedication.
Good luck in your job search and never give up.
