Quality kingfish have been about in big numbers but so too are the plagues of undersize schoolies that will quickly steal a bait.

Down rigging has been the only way to secure the bigger hoods on slimies and squid and slow trolling Bellambi Reef and the Five Islands group have all had kings cruising for a bruising.

Flathead drifts produced some excellent fish and nearly all the recognised drifts from Stanwell Park south to Kiama have seen happy anglers nearly bagging out.

Beaches continue to fish well for all bread and butter species such as bream, whiting and flathead and freshly caught beachworms and pipis are the best bait for these species.

There have been a few good mulloway caught over this last week ranging from soapies to around the 15kg mark.

Joel Jarvis caught and released his first for the year last week when he and good mate Josh Jones hit their local with Jarvie scoring his fish first cast, which he continues to remind Jonesy of – constantly.
