Just like that, Wollongong’s Mountain Designs is gone.

The doors of the outdoor clothing, footwear and adventure gear store – in the lower end of the city’s Crown Street Mall – closed for good at 5pm on Wednesday.

Six staff were employed at the Wollongong store, which was one of four to close on Wednesday.

Shops in Bendigo (Vic), Cannington (WA) and Toowoomba (Qld) also shut for the final time on that day.

Four other stores – in Wagga, Dubbo, Joondalup (WA) and Toowong (Qld) – closed on Sunday.

Another five will shut on a date to be determined. In a statement,

Mountain Designs said it was “adapting to changing pressures within the retail sector”, including increased competition and a decline in foot traffic nationwide.

The company, which trades online, is not in administration.
