Ralston bowled five overs with the new ball, for the relatively tidy return of 0-26, as India piled on 7-328 from their 50 overs, winning by 100 runs.
However, India’s top order dominated the contest, charging to 2-200 from 34.5 overs, when opener Majot Kaira was dismissed for 86 off 99, while captain Privthi Shaw was 94 off 100 balls and Shubman Gill was 63 off 54.
Ralston had impressed in the warm-up match against Sri Lanka, taking three wickets in Australia’s win.
Jack Edwards took 4-65 for Australia, off nine overs, while Param Uppal was the most economical, taking 1-35 from eight.
In reply, Australia were well behind the required run rate from the outset, at 2-86 from 21.2 overs and again at 8-205 from 40.4 overs.
Ralston was run out for three, the ninth wicket to fall.
