Better hook-ups came from 30 fathoms to way out over the shelf with a couple of guys going 2-2-2 from their well set up but tiller steer four-metre tinnies.

The majority of the fish caught in close were hooked on live slimy mackerel.

Out wider beyond 70 fathoms, some good striped billies were taken on lures with most hooked on lumo skirt combinations but all run on the short corner.

With a good weather window potentially opening up from yesterday, most anglers will be hanging out for the next few days to get out there and see what the ocean dishes up after this week’s earlier southerly bump.

Usually the marlin move further inshore to the shallower reef patterns to feed as the weather improves.

There were again some great snapper caught late last week and on Saturday before the buster came through.

The better fish have definitely moved out to the deeper reefs over the 50m mark and again they should be on the bite hard this week as the sea abates for the weekend.

Kingfish and bonito are still about in good numbers and size with some monster bonnies about.

A few hooked last Saturday were up over the 5kg mark.

Kingies have been caught in and just out the front of Port Harbour with some brutes in amongst the schools testing out anglers’ gear.

Fish over 10kg have been caught land based and from a number of small boats and kayaks over the last week down off Port.

Flathead drifts up north around the national park were still on fire with the average size of the fish well over the 50cm mark and in very good condition.

Both Stanwell Park Bulli sands and Wollongong sands continued to fish well.

It’s been a bit of a non event for the beach and rock fishos this week but all that should change again when the weather settles later in the week and the fishing should be red hot after that southerly.
