In honour of the national holiday, two Illawarra eateries will serve up a very Aussie spin on two classics with their Lamington shake and meat pie burger.
Popular Kiama cafe The Hungry Monkey will stack a meat pie, beef patty, cheese, crispy bacon and iceburg lettuce between two buns to create a combination almost certain to leave your taste buds confused and in need of a cold beverage to wash it down.
To that end, North Wollongong’s Blu Orange cafe has you covered with its jaw-dropping Lamington tower. More dessert than drink, this shake takes the humble Aussie cake to decadent new heights.
See what else is on the menu around the Illawarra on Friday:
- Burgers by Josh at Cringila has created a one-off special kicking off on Thursday night with “our take on the great Aussie milk bar burger the Shane Warne”.
- His Boy Elroy will be flipping this Aussie classic from 11am Australia Day.
- Humber has put a twist on one of the country's most iconic cakes with their Nutella lamingtons.
- The Donut Pantry’s Australia Day special includes Milo bombs, lamingtons and Caramello Koalas.
