On Thursday, the body of a 28-year-old man was pulled from the Murrumbidgee River in Wagga Wagga four days after he disappeared.

He had been swimming in the river about 8.45pm on January 21 when he disappeared in the strong current and didn't resurface.

Inspector Nigel Turney from Wagga Local Area Command said witnesses saw the man calling out for help but were unable to help him before he went under.

Police are not treating his death as suspicious.

"It's just one of those unfortunate circumstances where he chose to swim in the river at the wrong time," Inspector Turney said.

"There's nothing suspicious as far as we're concerned at this point in time."

The man's body was found about 6.20am by members of the Volunteer Rescue Association, who had been searching the river with a boat for 20 minutes.

NSW Ambulance, the State Emergency Service, Volunteer Rescue Association and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter had been involved in the search, which eventually located the man about two kilometres from where he disappeared.

His family are expected to travel from South Australia to formally identify him.

The helicopter was then sent to Table Top, near Albury, to search for a man who disappeared while swimming in Lake Hume on Wednesday night.

The 24-year-old arrived at the lake with his brother and three friends about 8pm and the group were there for an hour and 45 minutes before they went for a swim.

Police said the man went into deeper water and wasn't seen again.

Emergency services launched a search of the lake, but the man wasn't located until police divers were called in.

His body was retrieved from the lake about 1pm on Thursday.

Inspector Turney said the drownings were a demonstration that people needed to take care in the water.

"People who are using the waterways - whether they're rivers, lakes, anything like that - they need to take extreme care in using those waterways," Inspector Turney said.

"There's hidden objects, as we've discussed before, rocks, logs, anything like that, that can be under the surface that they cannot see when they go into the water."

Police will prepare reports for the coroner.
