Why did you apply for an IAS scholarship?
It was recommended to me by a friend and because over the last few years my interest for triathlons has grown. I want to improve my skills within the sport, compete at a wider range and help others in any way I can to improve their skills as well.
Who’s your favourite professional athlete?
My favourite athlete is Ian Thorpe; as a swimmer myself I admire him and what he has achieved. He represented Australia for the first time at the age of 14 meaning that no matter how young you are you can do anything if you are willing to try.
If you weren’t doing this sport what would you be doing?
If I wasn’t competing in triathlons I would be doing more of just one sport like swimming or running and not combining them together in a triathlon. I would be staying at home more and not training as much.
How would you describe yourself in one sentence?
Active, full of energy, enthusiastic and a bit goofy.
What are your plans beyond school?
My plans are to go to university get a degree and begin my career. I have not chosen what I am going to study yet but I have a good feeling about something to do with maths and technology. I would love to be able to compete in triathlons as well.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I would stay in Australia but live somewhere warm, along a beach and in a friendly neighbourhood. Personally I would stay right where I am, it is within walking distance to the beach, the weather is mostly warm and I have lots of friends nearby.
What do you do in your free time?
I enjoy going to the beach, walking along the bike track, riding my bike, and if the weather’s bad or if I’m exhausted I like to watch movies.
What is your favourite subject at school?
My favourite subject at school would be maths. I like working with my friends and by myself on complex math problems to do with algebra, trigonometry, and more. I also enjoy information software technology, although this is only an elective. It is very useful for the future as you learn about computers, how to use them and different ways you can use them.
What is your greatest achievement in your sport so far?
Competing in the NSW all schools triathlon. Although it may not seem like much, to me it is a great achievement as it is the biggest and most important event I have competed in.
How did you get started in your sport?
I competed in my first triathlon when I was 11 years old. It was the miniman at the Wollongong elite energy triathlon. I started competing in triathlons because of my dad. He competed in them not for competition but just for leisure and he wanted my brothers and I to do the same. At first I found them hard but the more I did, the more I enjoyed the challenge.
