MISSING OUT AGAIN
Having received my rate notice from Wollongong Council I feel that I should be entitled to deduct a reasonable amount from the total account as council, in its wisdom, decided to fund the Wollongong Shuttle without my input.

The money provided to it could have been spent fixing roads around the Warrawong area, pedestrian crossings, seats, etc.
South Wollongong misses out again.

PARK THE IDEA
I have to protest strongly at the ridiculous proposal by a Wollongong councillor for a seniors-only park and exercise facility.
While policy and decision makers (including families) like to see us oldies as one amorphous group, we know that we, like everyone else in society, come in all shapes and sizes, levels of physical and intellectual ability and disabilit.
We have different aspirations, from many ethnic and religious backgrounds, and a broad spectrum of sexual identifications.
Herding us into 'seniors-only' living and exercise spaces not only doesn't appeal to a majority of us, it does not 'build community' or 'mitigate loneliness' as this proposal assumes it will.
We need council to protect and maintain our green space and make them, and all council facilities, user-friendly for all members of the community.
And to feel part of a community, and to mitigate loneliness, involves all of us - taking time and interest in those around us, wherever we are, with an open-minded, inquiring mindset.
Believing the headlines about how 'unsafe' it is to engage with people who are different from us, and segregating ourselves into ghettos inhabited by those 'like us' in age, income, background or political or religious views does not make us feel part of the larger community.
Nor does it help us to feel less lonely.
Noticing, and being grateful for, the little acts of kindness offered us by strangers every day, and offering them in return, is what helps us realise that it's good to be alive.

AUSTRALIA POST PUTTING THE SNAIL IN MAIL
And Austarlia Post wonders why it is losing business.
I recently had a small parcel sent from Seattle USA to Mount Warrigal.
Seattle to Sydney via San Francisco by United States Postal service - four days.
Sydney to Mount Warrigal by Australia Post, seven days!
And they wonder why they are losing business!

A NEW INDUSTRY TO MAKE BLOOD MONEY
The man who promised Australians the best communications network in the world, when he failed to deliver, went on to become Prime Minister, has finally reached the bottom of the capitalist barrel.
After planning the demise of Australia's manufacturing industry, and withdrawing every bit of financial support for Australian jobs, the obnoxious Malcolm Turnbull has now revealed what he and his capitalist mates really stand for: Money at any opportunity.
He now plans to use taxpayer’s money to develop our own industry of death.
Starting up an Australian arms industry to make money from exporting weapons for killing people overseas.
He takes as much as he can from the Australians on struggle street but has no time at all for anyone who doesn't have heaps of money.
We once rode on the sheep's back.
Very soon we will see merinos wearing a bullet proof vest.
Australia doesn't need this industry and its blood money.
