It seems like quite a while, considering the British rapper says he loves coming Down Under.

"I need to always go to Australia for ever, it's just such a good crowd," Dizzee Rascal, real name Dylan Mills, told AAP.

"It's always been a good testing ground. I swear I tried out a lot of new stuff in Australia too."

Mills released his sixth album, Raskit, last year. It was hailed as a return to his grime roots after a foray into more pop and dance-leaning albums.

"With this one I felt like, I've put my foot back in," he said.

Rascal appears to have hit a new stride in his return to grime, and is already working on new music.

"It's not going to take four years for the next album. I've been in the studio since about November," he said.

"I'm just writing about life, whatever's going on and forcing myself to just write on the spot as well. I never used to write in the studio. I'd prepare lyrics first and then go in the studio. But that's how you get the freshest stuff."

His live performance takes in all his music, spanning across his six albums. It's a high-octane show that's gone down well during his solo tour of the UK.

"It's been good, especially doing songs like Space (from Raskit). People go mad halfway through it when I start picking up the flow," he said.

"It's been nice to try out all the new ones along with the old ones, to see what works and what doesn't work as well. It's a learning curve. But there's so much to choose from from all the albums."

He does have one way of making sure the gig goes well and to fire up the crowd.

"The way we always do it is like a rollercoaster ride, it keeps going up."
