When the Wigan Warriors and Hull FC do battle on WIN Stadium on Saturday night it will be the first ever Super League clash for points outside the United Kingdom.
For followers of the two clubs, some of whom have taken the long journey to our shores, it is an important clash. Premiership points and pride are at stake.
For the Illawarra more broadly, it is a landmark contest between two international clubs of renown that will again put our region in the international spotlight.
The early forecast is showing the sun will be shining down on our region as well as the spotlight.
Imagine the footage of fans on the famous hill at WIN Stadium, still dressed in shorts and t-shirt on a balmy Saturday night, beaming into the lounge rooms of the winter-worn watchers in the UK.
While the result will certainly matter for the two clubs, for this region it will be the fruition of an opportunity seized. And it promises to be a spectacle fitting of the moment.
A special pre-game All-Stars clash featuring some great names of the Wigan and the St George Illawarra Dragons will no doubt entertain the crowd before the big clash.
During the main game, the Wigan and Hull fans on the hill are sure to provide their own entertainment chanting their club songs.
Like Elton John was last year, this is a piece of history for the Illawarra too good to miss.
