The 23-year-old suffered the injury after landing awkwardly in the act of scoring the opening goal of the game in the ninth minute. She bravely played on, but was eventually removed from the field in the 46th minute. Sydney FC went on to win 3-2, but their attack was affected by Foord’s absence.
Scans Monday confirmed the Shellharbour junior had ruptured her lisfranc ligament, with the rupture, and subsequent mid-foot instability, requiring surgery.
The injury puts the 23-year-old in serious doubt for April’s Asian Cup and rules her out of next Sunday’s W-League grand final against Melbourne City. The recovery time for this injury varies based on the severity of the injury, but is typically a minimum of two months.
Foord took to Twitter to confirm the news, wishing her teammates the best of luck in next week’s match.
“Mixed emotions for me after Saturday’s semi final win,” She wrote. “I couldn’t be happier to get the win with my @sydneyfootballclub girls and proud of this group to be heading through to the W-league Grand Final this weekend.
“But after having a bit of bad luck during the match and after my scans I’m absolutely shattered to find out I’ve Rupture my lis franc (sic) ligament and have a unstable joint in mid foot.
“I will be under going surgery tomorrow. Thank you to everyone for there prays (sic) and kind messages.
“A massive positive - I have a lot of things to keep me motivated and work hard towards. Plus I’m in good hands and I have 100% trust in everyone around me to have me back on the field before i know it.”
