Fire and Rescue crews from Corrimal and Balgownie were called to the incident about 6pm, with reports the fibro and tile Kendall Street home was well alight.
According to reports, no one was home at the time of the fire.
The firefighters worked quickly in evening temperatures of around 37 degrees to contain the fire.
However, bystanders said it appeared almost everything in the home had been destroyed.
Police and ambulance officers were also called to the scene.
Earlier on Wednesday, Rural Fire Service and NSW Fire and Rescue crews responded to reports of fires in the southern Illawarra.
Just after 4pm, there were reports of a large column of smoke coming from near the intersection of the M1 and Northcliffe Drive.
