Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has just told Parliament House that Senator Mathias Cormann will be acting Prime Minister in Joyce's place.
Turnbull told question time the Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has committed to an extensive program in the United Kingdom, Hungary and Slovenia next week, despite Bishop earlier offering to fly home for the role.
The Deputy Prime Minister will take a week of personal leave from Monday.
