The banter was nearly as tight as the organiser’s speedos at the launch of this year’s Great Ocean Pool Crawl.

Phil Murray’s legendary flair for the dramatic this time led himself, former Illawarra Hawks player Glen Saville and Keira MP Ryan Park to flail across the Towradgi Ocean Pool in a giant floaty race, all in the name of charity.
It was not a tight race. The clear winner was most certainly Mr Saville, gliding through the waves like a pro, gracefully perched on a stunning plastic unicorn.
A devastated Mr Park questioned the legitimacy of Mr Saville’s win.
“He must have been cheating!” he said.
“How’d he do that? How did you do that?”
Mr Murray preferred to blame a bad start, saying that it was ‘tough out there’.
“Once we jumped in I missed the top of the floaty and never recovered.” he said.
All three men were stoked to have made it across the pool with their floaties intact and speedos still secured in place.
This is not the first time Mr Murray has showed us he was not afraid to make a spectacle of himself in the name of charity.
For the past 15 years Phil Murray has been the organiser of the Great Ocean Pool Crawl, which raises around $20,000 each year for cancer.
Last year Mr Murray launched the event by jumping out of plane dressed in red speedos and flippers, another year he went in a paddle board race dressed in a suit.
“We’ve raised a total of $220,000 so far, so we’re hoping to get to $240,000, maybe even $250,000 this year,” he said.
All the money raised stays local to the Illawarra to support cancer sufferers and their families.
“There’s so many people who are affected directly or indirectly by cancer, people I know ... that sort of drives me.”
The Crawl will be held March 4, starting at the Towradgi Park Bowls and recreation Club. Join the fun and make a difference at www.poolcrawl.com.au
