They’ve knocked on their neighbour’s doors, said hello and their combined efforts have raised millions.
I’d like to send a massive thanks to the thousands of schools, businesses, community organisations and our dedicated Red Cross members who’ve answered the call over the years.
All of that effort has gone a long way, allowing Red Cross to help where we’re needed most; from providing support during and after disasters, to making phone calls to check on the isolated and elderly to helping communities make a better future for themselves.
So many extraordinary volunteers here in NSW have also gone the extra mile – not just raising money but also reaching out to their neighbours, asking how they’re going and checking on their wellbeing.
Red Cross Calling is more than a fundraiser – it gives us a reason to connect and volunteer for the sake of our community. Research shows that volunteering and helping in our neighbourhoods helps us live happier, longer lives.
These volunteers make Australia a special place to live.
This year we aim to double the number of volunteers in NSW. Will you be one of them? Join the fun today: redcrosscalling.org.au or call 1800 RED CROSS (733 276).
You can also contact your local Red Cross Branch so you can join their efforts.

ALTERNATE HEALTH RISK
The proposal to ban smoking from accommodation provided by the Housing Trust (9 February, Housing Trust to introduce smoke-free unit complex policy) is based on the logic that up to two third of smokers die from a tobacco-related condition).
However, although people smoke for the nicotine, they die from the tar.
These days, smokers unable or unwilling to quit can switch to e-cigarettes which provide nicotine without most of the highly toxic ingredients of smoke.
E-cigarettes are not harmless but they are at least 95% less harmful than cigarettes according to estimates from some prestigious health organisations.
Unfortunately e-cigarettes are virtually banned in Australia even though UK, NZ, Canada and USA are now making it easier for smokers to switch to vaping e-cigarettes.
The unfortunate unintended consequence of the ban on smoking in this accommodation is that some disadvantaged people will inevitably 'sleep rough' (outside) and in winter that is taking some serious risks to health.

WHO CARRIES THE COST?
Little confused. Why is council being asked to remove these structures?
If I erect something (legal or illegal) it is my responsibility, and cost, to remove it
What's the difference in this situation

NEW FOUR-LANE BRIDGE PLANNED
Why not use it for its original purpose and put a rail line on it and extend the railway further south.
_ Adam
Exactly Adam. Perfect opportunity to utilize this opportunity to extend the rail line to Sth Nowra. That bridge would be perfect for two rail lines and would be easy to align with Bomaderry platform.
_ Mark
Great idea. I always feel like sucking my gut in and pulling my elbows to my side when driving over this bridge. Lol.
_ Ann
Hope they put a toll booth on it and start charging cyclists.
