Adelaide United defender Ersan Gulum is facing a lengthy ban for sarcastically clapping in the face of a referee after his A-League send-off on Saturday.

The 30-year-old has been cited under Football Federation Australia's national code of conduct for his actions following his red card in Adelaide's 2-2 draw with the Central Coast Mariners at Coopers Stadium.
Incensed after he was controversially sent off in the 18th minute for a collision with Trent Buhagiar, Gulum marched over to referee Shaun Evans and delivered his ironic applause before storming into the rooms.
Replays suggested there was only minimal contact and the fact the video assistant referee did not review the incident angered the crowd, Gulum, and coach Marco Kurz, who later told Fox Sports that a draw was a good result for Adelaide because they were "10 men against 12".
Gulum has until 5pm (AEDT) on Wednesday to provide a submission to FFA and could be slapped with a reprimand, fine or additional ban on top of his one-week automatic suspension.
