Three Illawarra performing arts groups have shared in 14 trophies at the annual Canberra Area Theatre (CAT) Awards.

So Popera, Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts and The Illawarra Grammar School were honoured for various stage productions held in 2017.
Family company So Popera scored nine awards including Best Choregrapher, Best Musical Director, Best Orchestra, and Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical.
The Illawarra Grammar School won three including Best Youth Actress in a Leading Role in Musical (Molly Stewart). Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts picked up two awards including Best Youth Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical (Matthew Hearne).
“Mary Poppins was truly a labour of love. The awards recognise the hard work and skills of more than 90 students, including the 30 piece orchestra,” said director of Mary Poppins and Head of Visual Arts at TIGS, Jacqui Hitchcock.
The CAT Awards have been celebrating non-professional theatre, dance and the musical groups in Canberra and surrounding districts since 1994.
