Police are appealing for help after a man armed with wood attempted to hold up a service station in Warilla on Tuesday night.

The man entered the store on Shellharbour Road about 6pm and threatened a console operator with the piece of wood.
The staff member, who escaped the ordeal without injury, sounded the alarm after the man fled empty-handed.
Police from Lake Illawarra Police District established a crime scene and commenced a search for the man.
A police dog managed to track him to Arcadia Street where it is believed he fled in a vehicle.
The would-be robber has been described to police as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, about 183cm tall and with a medium build.
