That potentially means options to solve the transport headaches of Lawrence Hargrave Drive through Thirroul and the crush along the Princes Highway at the Bulli CBD may soon be on the table.
The government department is working on the Thirroul to Unanderra Network Strategy, which is “an in-depth assessment of the road network”, a Roads and Maritime Services spokesman said.
The strategy is expected to be released later this year.
The Roads and Maritime Services spokesman said the two renowned spots in the northern suburbs of the Illawarra will get some attention in the strategy.

“The assessment will identify a range of short, medium and long term priorities to improve safety and efficiency on the road network, including Lawrence Hargrave Drive through Thirroul and the Princes Highway through Bulli,” the Roads and Maritime Services spokesman said.
The assessment will also look at possible major infrastructure projects to improve traffic movements in and out of the region.
“The analysis will help determine if and when any major network improvements such as a bypass of Bulli or an extension of Memorial Drive might be required in the future,” the Roads and Maritime Services spokesman said.
The strategy is part of long-term plan of Roads and Maritime Services and Transport for NSW to devise corridor strategies for state roads.
A plan for the length of the Princes Highway has already been released.
Strategies for Picton and Appin roads, the Illawarra Highway and Bulli Pass are understood to have been completed and awaiting final approval.
A Nowra-Bomaderry Network Strategy is also under way.
The strategies are designed to include priorities for future road maintenance, as well as safety and traffic.
The strategies will be reviewed every five years.
