7.40am: Police say two people have died in a crash on the Princes Highway south of Nowra.
Two vehicles collided head-on at Jerrawangala, south of Sussex Inlet Road, about 5.20am on Friday.
The drivers of both vehicles, a man and a woman, died at the scene.
They were the sole occupants of their vehicles.
The Princes Highway remains closed in both directions and police have urged motorists to avoid the area or delay their trip.
Police from the South Coast Police District have commenced an investigation into the incident.
A crash investigation unit is on the scene.
Anyone with information should contact police at Nowra or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
The crash happened about 15km north of the site of a fiery Boxing Day crash at Bendalong, which claimed five lives.
That head-on crash killed four members of the Falkholt family.
Lars and Vivian Falkholt died at the scene along with the driver of the other car, Craig Anthony Whitall.
The Falkholt’s daughters, Annabelle and actress Jessica, were pulled from the wreckage before the car burst into flames and flown to hospital.
Annabelle, 21, died three days after the crash.
Jessica, 28, was taken off life support the day after her family’s funeral and died six days later.
7.15am: A serious two-car crash has closed the Princes Highway in both directions at Jerrawangala, south of Nowra, on Friday morning.
The crash happened south of Sussex Inlet Road about 5.30am on Friday.
Lengthy diversions are in place, with the highway expected to remain closed for some time.
Southbound light vehicles are being diverted onto Turpentine Road at Tomerong, then Braidwood and Nerriga roads to Braidwood, before joining the Kings Highway to return to the Princes Highway at Batemans Bay.
The northbound diversion is the same in reverse.
The NSW Transport Management Centre says motorists should allow plenty of extra travel time on the diversion route.
The detour is not suitable for heavy vehicles. Heavy vehicles are being parked on site.
Emergency services and traffic crews are on the scene.
