The animal welfare organisation held a national adoption weekend offering a $29 fee for all animals, regardless of age or species.
DJ Caz the greyhound had been staying in the shelter for over a year and was one of more than 70 pets (including dogs, cats, budgies, a mouse and a goat) rehomed by Sunday afternoon.
“It makes all really happy, and we like to think that sometimes they’re here for that extra period of time because they’re waiting for that perfect home. And a lot of the time that’s how it works,” supervisor Janelle Kalkan said.
By the end of the weekend one rooster, several budgies, one cat and a dog named Nemo were still in much need of a home.
Last year saw 753 animals rehomed from NSW shelters during the Clear the Shelters campaign. This year nearly 3000 were up for adoption statewide.
