The fast bowler bowled an incredible 19 overs in a row in Sunday’s 38-degree heat and Lake captain Mark Ulcigrai was full of praise for Henry after his match-winning performance.
“Aaron Henry stole the show, I can’t praise the bloke enough,” Ulcigrai said. “He was enormous for us, to bowl the amount of overs he did in 38-degree heat, I can’t give him enough praise.”
Henry entered the match under an injury cloud, however he showed no signs of this as he collected 7-35 to bowl Gerringong out for 138, 112 runs shy of the Lakers first-innings total of 250. Ulcigrai enforced the follow on, with Gerringong 6-210 when the match was called.
Gerringong’s 138 came after the Lakers bounced back from a string of poor performances on Saturday.
Opener Kerrod White reached 43 before falling to James Hayman. Brother Brendan was the next wicket to fall, adding 44 to the total. Brendan played a key role in a 68-run fourth-wicket partnership with Ryan Maguire. Maguire top scored with 56, while David Lambert added 37 vital lower-order runs.
Hayman cleaned out the tail to finish with four wickets, while Lachlan Hall claimed three scalps.
Ulcigrai was pleased with the focus his batsmen displayed against the pair.
“We were pretty selective in our shot selections. Although people did get starts and we didn’t get that one big hundred, I think we were heaps better than the last six weeks.”
