Emergency services were called to the university about 4.55pm on Wednesday following reports of a leak in a chemical storage area.
The liquid is believed to be water. However, hazardous materials crews from Shellharbour have been called to investigate.
Thirty people have been evacuated as a precaution.
A FRNSW spokesman said all chemical containers in the area had been deemed safe.
“It doesn’t appear there’s been a chemical spill,” he said.
Firefighters, in breathing apparatus, are investigating.
The operation was ongoing as at 5.30pm.
