Mid-way through the set at Anita’s Theatre, the leading lady realised the heartfelt significance of the video about to play for their song Santa Monica Dreaming.
The video was of Julia and her brother Angus as children, playing with their grandmother and their late grandfather - the man who first taught them to play piano.
“And my grandmother is here tonight,” exclaimed a glassy-eyed Julia. The crowd erupting in cheers at the conclusion of a very emotional song, Julia seemingly have wet, shiny cheeks.
The mix of chilled and vibey songs did not disappoint, with the duo and their band building to a strong climax, ending with their biggest hits Big Jet Plane and Chateau. The latter seeing dozens of phones held high to capture the moment many had been waiting all night for.
There were too many smiles by the group during their quick exit off-stage, prompting the crowd to give the obligatory “encore” chant. Angus and Julia did not disappoint with the crowd roaring and dancing to their final hit before bidding farewell.
