The happy couple are now $100,000 richer, thanks to their winning entry in the Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot draw on Monday.
In addition to winning the first prize, the duo’s entry of two consecutive numbers also scored a $1000 consolation prize.
When a NSW Lotteries official first made contact with the couple – who wants to remain anonymous – on Monday afternoon to deliver the winning news, the couple were highly sceptical.
But when they checked the draw results online on Tuesday morning, they realised they were $100,000 richer.
“We just didn’t believe it. You can never be too careful with these types of calls,” the winning man said.
“Even my wife said this morning ‘Did that really happen? Did we really win?’. It’s just fantastic.”
The couple shared a few ways they’d like to use their prize.
“My wife would like to buy some new curtains, and I’d like to get a new car. She can get the curtains if I can get the car,” the man laughed.
“We’d also like to plan an overseas trip!”
The couple bought their winning entry of two consecutive numbers from Dapto Newsagency, on Bong Bong Road.
Dapto Newsagency staff member Victoria Merritt said the outlet was thrilled to have sold a first prize winning entry.
“It’s great news. We’ve been telling our customers and word has been spreading so we’ve had a lot of people coming in to get an entry into the next draw,” she said.
“We can’t wait to sell another winning entry.”
It’s not the first time the Dapto Newsagency has sold winning entries.
Earlier this year, a group of Wollongong workmates scored themselves $1 million on a ticket bought at the newsagent – the third division one winning entry sold by the business in the past 5 years.
In June, 2017, it was revealed a Dapto mum would be living the life for five years after she won big on an instant scratchie bought at Dapto Newsagency.
The woman, who chose to remain anonymous, receives $1000 a week after holding a winning $5 Live the Life Scratch-Its ticket.
