Teams of girls aged 11 to 14 from the Illawarra, South Coast, Shoalhaven and ACT will play up to 12 matches between now and February. 

The opening rounds of the competition have been hailed a success, with the players exposed to expert coaching and regular competition in order to facilitate further skill development. 

Cricket NSW’s Steve Davies helped set up the league and is hopeful it breeds the next generation of representative players.

“With interest in women’s cricket growing across Australia and globally, it’s important to give girls similar development opportunities as boys at the community level,” Davies said.

“Girls of this age wanting to play cricket have usually slotted into boys’ teams, so it’s an exciting turning point when we can showcase exclusive girl’s teams.”
