But by night and on weekends he is earning a reputation as a super photographer and videographer and has just won international recognition.
After a busy lead up to Christmas Mr Tang logged onto his computer to discover he had won first place in the commercial photography category of the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) Photography Competition.
WPPI is considered a prestigious global competition as only a few people win gold each year. And only one photo every five years or so receives a perfect score.
Mr Tang entered two photos in the commercial category and one in the pre-wedding category in early November before heading off to New Zealand to shoot a documentary on friend Tim Fan who in 2017 was named Australian Photography Magazine’s Landscape Photographer of the Year. When he returned he started working on another project for an internationally renowned wedding photographer.
During the Christmas break he was surprised to discover he had won two silver medals and a first place at WPPI. Mr Tang didn’t say anything about his win but when a friend posted his achievement on social media his IRT workmates were ecstatic.
Mr Tang started his landscape photography as a hobby in 2011 with a second-hand camera. He started teaching himself using video tutorialsn then got some professional training with a Sydney-based wedding photography and videography company before becoming independent professional.
“I got very interested in wedding photography. I also want to do more commercial photography and film making. I made a short film last year and looking forward to making more”.
Mr Tang’s future goals include making movies.
