In recent years the teenagers have taken the plunge and come up with new ways to get more people involved in swimming.
Next Monday the duo will host their second Ocean Pool Challenge for McKeons Swim School in Unanderra.
More than 50 participants are expected to take the Wests Illawarra Aquatic 2019 Ocean Pool Challenge plunge on January 21.
But 14-year-old Regan won’t be one of them.
“I’ll be in Newcastle playing cricket for Illawarra [under 14],” he said.
“It’s unfortunate I’ll be missing it this year but I can assure people the event will be just as fun as last year’s inaugural event.”
Regan, who is the Wests Illawarra Aquatic Swim Club junior club captain, and fellow member Bailey, organised the first challenge in late 2017 during their stint in a youth advisory swimming panel.
“We wanted to try something which would encourage more people to get into swimming. This seemed like the perfect event,” Regan said.
Held to coincide with the Australia Swims “Lap Australia Challenge”, the Ocean Pool Challenge will see participants swim 500 metres in each of the 16 ocean pools between Coalcliff and Kiama.
The event will also involve a morning tea at Austinmer and barbecue lunch at Bellambi.
“We had a great time last year. I’m sure it will be just as fun this year,” Regan said.
