The Wolves had to come from behind twice to snatch a point at Seymour Shaw Park, but remained unbeaten to stay top of the competition.
"We are disappointed but I think that speaks volumes about the expectations at the club," Wilkshire said.
"Even if we are playing away from home we want to win every game."
Sutherland were bottom of the league coming into their encounter with the Wolves, but took the lead when Juan Romero tapped in at the near post 15 minutes in.
A goal of the season contender from Nikola Djordjevic brought the Wolves level after the young gun executed a stunning scorpion kick in the 34th minute.
Sutherland went ahead again from the boot of Raul Romero from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute.
It took a pinpoint free kick from Thomas James, which hit the post before being bundled over the line by Taylor McDonald, to help Wollongong rescue a point.
"I think Sutherland came out desperate for points," Wilkshire said.
"They were hungry and fighting and we didn't match that in the first half.
"In the second half we had a better response.
"We conceded two sloppy goals but I have to give the boys some credit for coming from a goals down twice in the match."
Meanwhile, South Coast Flame gave up a two goal lead to draw 2-2 with Prospect United on Saturday night.
