Police are investigating a suspicious fire that gutted a Bellambi house yesterday morning. The fire brigade was called to the brick home in Tressider Place about 4.30am after a neighbour alerted them to the blaze. No-one was in the house at the time.Sources told the Mercury it appeared someone had poured accelerant on an exterior wall of the house and it had leaked onto nearby grass where a large burnt patch remained.Senior Sergeant Brad Ainsworth said police were treating the fire as suspicious."A crime scene was established this morning and our forensic services have been conducting an examination," Snr Sgt Ainsworth said."We have got one male person that is helping us with our inquiries, but no-one has been arrested at this stage."Neighbour Judy McDavid, whose son Jason was living at the fire-gutted home, said she was woken shortly after 4.30am by another neighbour's screams. Fortunately Ms McDavid's son was staying at a friend's home on the night of the fire."The fire was fully up and going at that stage and it sounded like fireworks, there was glass exploding," she said."My son was so distressed this morning."Anyone with information about the fire should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
