Wollongong is losing one of its most successful and community-minded businesspeople to Australia's biggest auto dealer.Mirko Milic left Keira Ford on Friday to take on a new role as dealer principal of the McGrath Motor Group in Liverpool.Mr Milic, 43, will mainly oversee McGrath Holden, recognised as an iconic dealership in Australia. He drew on an impressive track record to secure the prime position with Automotive Holdings Group, which owns more than 100 dealership sites across the nation and covers nine of the top 10 brands sold in Australia. The group has 3500 employees and an annual turnover of $3 billion.Mr Milic was named Illawarra Boss of the Year in 2005 and under his management Tory Toyota was named Illawarra Business of the Year in 2003, Toyota Dealer of the Year three times and won the Toyota Australia President's Award five times.During his tenure as Keira Ford dealer principal, the Ford dealership in Corrimal St, Wollongong was named 2007's Illawarra Retail Business of the Year.Mr Milic said his most satisfying business achievements in the Illawarra were taking both dealerships to number one nationally in customer satisfaction and gaining the respect of his staff and the community. He said he is proud of the contribution the businesses made to the community during his tenure. In recent years at Keira Ford, he helped Dr Margaret Gardiner raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the National Breast Cancer Foundation."In 2007 we raised $300,000 in this area, which is the biggest regional result in Australia for the foundation," he said. "Every vehicle sold, we donated a certain percentage to them and every time someone picked up a car, new or used, they get a National Breast Cancer Foundation pack."At Tory Toyota, Mr Milic worked with another impressive woman, Margaret Biggs, raising money for St Vincent de Paul and helping many other charitable and sporting organisations."The one that carried through to both dealerships was Bandage Bear," he said."We'd supply a car for the raffle and were heavily involved with them. "With Bandaged Bear, half of the money raised went to Westmead Hospital's cancer ward and half went to Illawarra kids with disabilities."Born and bred in Warrawong and educated at Edmund Rice College, Mr Milic has always been keen to support the community that supported him.Despite accepting the position in Liverpool, Mr Milic will continue living here with wife Lina and their children, Kristina, Anthony and Nikolas.
