Port Kembla put a hellish week behind them to secure a scoreless draw away to Tarrawanna yesterday. Last year's Illawarra Premier League and grand final runners-up sacked coach John Fleming last Monday and the football fraternity was abuzz with rumours long-time president Emilio Salucci had walked out on the club. But Salucci was on hand to watch the black-and-whites - playing their first game under caretaker coach Rob Cazzolli - at Tarrawanna Oval and confirmed to the Mercury that he would remain as president.Even the most ardent Port Kembla supporter would have admitted the men from Wetherall Park were lucky not to go behind five minutes into the match when Tim O'Brien's free header was well saved by keeper George Bouropoulos.Bouropoulos was less assured in the 29th minute when he fumbled a free kick, but he cleaned up the mess before Tarra's Shane Souter could stab the ball into the net.In the 36th minute, the Port custodian's opposite number, Christian Pretto, dropped a cross, but Matt Sini could only blast the follow-up over the bar.One minute later, Port thought they had earned a penalty when Sini was brought down in the area, but their appeals fell on deaf ears.Port had a final chance before half-time when Ricky Metcalfe's free kick led to a scramble, but the visitors couldn't find the back of the net.The second half was devoid of opportunities, but the stalemate meant Tarrawanna remained in fifth place, while Port moved four points clear of last-placed Wollongong United.Cazzolli, who expects to return to the field in round 10 against Woonona after a hamstring injury, stopped short of declaring the wheel had turned after a horrid start to the season."I'm just happy we kept a clean sheet today and the boys played really well," Cazzolli said.Cazzolli was approached by Port Kembla's committee to take the reigns in conjunction with youth team co-coach Lou Delturco and confirmed his tenure was strictly on a caretaker basis."They will be looking for another coach. All I can worry about is game by game," Cazzolli said."I said I would do it because I believe in the club."I'm a player first and foremost and I want to have a good season once I get my hammy right."
