Train kills girl, 10, at Coledale

A 10-year-old girl was killed at Coledale tonight after she was struck by a southbound passenger train.Ambulance paramedics, police and Fire and Rescue NSW crews rushed to Coledale Railway Station shortly before 7pm following calls of a child under a train.The young girl was pronounced dead at the scene.South Coast trains were immediately halted and passengers forced to wait on board while emergency service crews attended the incident.The Mercury understands the child, believed to be from Coledale, was hit by the train while she was playing with a friend below the Cater St Bridge at the southern end of the station.The child’s mother arrived at the scene moments after emergency crews arrived.South Coast line trains between Waterfall and Thirroul were suspended immediately and buses called in.CityRail was unable to provide information on when the line would reopen.
