A man accused of threatening a woman and her son while armed with a 30cm knife has been refused bail in Wollongong Local Court.Police said Colin Maxwell Farrow, 37, of Church St, Wollongong, had twice threatened the woman in the two weeks leading up to the incident, once via text message, and the other time when he saw her in the street.Documents tendered to the court accuse Farrow of throwing several rocks at the woman's second-storey window about 7.30pm on Thursday night, prompting the woman and her son to go out onto the home's balcony.Farrow then allegedly produced a 30cm knife and yelled to the victim, "Come out here. Come down here and I'll show you what I can do with it", before leaving. The man was arrested four hours later and was yesterday in court on an intimidation charge.Farrow had admitted being at the house but denied having a knife and told officers all he wanted was to get his clothes, according to police documents accompanying the charge."The accused denied the incident but did not supply police with any [other] version of events ... under the circumstances, police must go with the version supplied by the witness and must consider the accused to be a threat to the victim," the police fact sheet said."Even though the incident occurred outside the unit, police have grave concerns for what might have occurred if the accused met the victim or her son in the street."Sergeant Shannon Ryan asked the court to deny Farrow bail for the protection of the victim.Legal Aid solicitor Angela Melouney said her client had agreed to comply with strict bail conditions if allowed his liberty. She pointed out that Farrow had twice denied having a knife and on his previous charges had always appeared in court and never breached bail. However, Registrar Paul Smith said he was concerned about potential further offences being committed against the woman if Farrow were released. The case was adjourned to January 10.
