Police were patrolling the Berkeley area about 10.45pm on Tuesday, when they noticed an Alfa Romeo sedan travelling along Northcliffe Drive.
Checks revealed the vehicle had been stolen from a car park at Port Kembla Hospital.
Officers started chasing the car along Northcliffe Drive and on to the F6 Freeway.
The Alfa Romeo took the Fowlers Road exit but left the roadway, coming to rest against a gutter.
The three occupants of the car allegedly ran from the scene.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested nearby a short time later and a 13-year-old boy was found with the help of the police dog unit.
It’s alleged the 13-year-old boy kicked a police dog, which bit him on the leg.
The 16-year-old boy was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and charged with instigating a police pursuit, reckless driving, taking and driving a vehicle without consent and driving without a licence.
He was granted conditional bail and will appear before Port Kembla Children’s Court on November 26.
The 13-year-old was taken to Wollongong Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The third occupant was not found.
Lake Illawarra police are continuing their investigations.
