Australian contemporary circus act Circus Monoxide has managed to woo back Illawarra talent from across the globe for two unique performances that promise to be a highlight at this year's Viva festival.
Tamara Campbell is an internationally known artist in her field of physical comedy and, like many of the performers touring nationally and internationally, she has come home for Viva La Gong to join this Circus Monoxide act.
"This weekend the big top in Wollongong is the place to be ... we have young, emerging and professional local talent gathering for a performance you don't want to miss," she said.
Campbell said audiences could look forward to a great collection of circus artistry.
"There'll be high-flying aerial work, acrobatics, live music, comedy, interactive stuff ... we focus on a lot of funny stuff, but with a really high skill level too.
"It's really nice to showcase the talent we have around here. It's a great group, relentlessly hardworking and just very passionate people who love the circus and what they do," she said.
Wollongong City Council cultural development co-ordinator Megan McKell said the support from many local artists, performers and identities had led to an exciting variety of performances and physical theatre.
"There's a lot of elements to the festival, all over MacCabe Park. People just need to keep looking around, there will be a lot of surprises on the day," she said.
"It's fabulous, and it all adds to a great day of celebrating Wollongong."
Viva La Gong is tomorrow at MacCabe Park, starting with a parade from Civic Plaza at 10am.
