That's about it from Globe central here.

The major awards nearly all went as the 'experts' had predicted. And I did ok too. The Aussies didn't get much love though. And by not much I mean none. At all. Even Denmark got an award! Sheesh. Sure it was foreign language film, but still, I'm sure there are Americans who need subtitles to watch Animal Kingdom. Oh well.

Don't think Ricky Gervais will cop as much stick this year, and frankly that's because he didn't really do much, outside of a few pot shots in the first half of the ceremony. Don't know if he got gagged or if the plan was always to go to Faceless Voice to cut the time towards the end. I'm sure we'll... nah, we won't ever know.

This is quite a bitter acceptance speech in many ways. I don't think Bobby's a fan of film critics. Which is fair, but c'mon, they're the ones giving him the award.

Oh wow, De Niro's doing comedy by De Niro. He's threatening the HFPA with Homeland Security... right after they finish their full body scan of Megan Fox. Ricky, you've got company.

Matt Damon is presenting the award to Robert De Niro tonight. He's pulling off a pretty amusing "I'd never heard of this guy until I worked with him" schtick. Now he's impersonating De Niro. It's getting a bit odd up there. But he has a nice line about not recognising De Niro as the blonde thirteen year old hooker in Taxi Driver. Cue the montage.

Speaking of the Cecil B DeMille award, it's time for token trivia! The winner of the first Cecil B DeMille award for outstanding contributions to the world of entertainmentwas... Cecil B DeMille. Which must have been a relief, winning the second one might have been awkward.

Cecil was a fan of the HFPA, as you can tell by his letter on their tenth anniversary:“During the last ten years the members of your Association have endeared themselves to us in Hollywood for two main reasons. You have made friends with us and you have made friends for us. It's difficult to say which of these two things makes us happier. Perhaps the first, because of its personal contact—the warmth of which I have felt every time I have met any of you. Christian Bale's performance in The Fighter is just the right side of crazy/drug addict (he followed RDJ's advice in Tropic Thunder - "never go full retard") and clearly the momentum is with him.

Removing our Green and Gold glasses for a second, here's a list of all of the nominations for today's event.

Three films have dominated the nominations for tonight's awards. THE KING’S SPEECH with 7 nominations just pipped THE FIGHTER and THE SOCIAL NETWORK with 6 nominations a piece. There have been some suggestions (including by director Tom Hooper) that The King's Speech is an English / Australian co-production, so the fervently patriotic can take heart there. The Australian awards bodies have declared it is NOT an Australian film for Australian awards purposes though, so it's a bit like claiming Claire Danes (who is nominated in the TV section) because she used to date an Aussie.

What about the Aussies? Well, it’s been a great year for nominations for Australians but the gongs have been a bit harder to come by, which in many ways makes today a make-or-break affair. Who are the Aussies in contention?

What can we expect today? Well, last year's awards should be a bit of an indicator. At least in terms of the event's style that is. The host today is once again Ricky Gervais. Ricky copped a fair bit of criticism - and a lot of praise - for his efforts last year. Holocaust references, Angelina adoption references. Can he top that this year?

Speaking of the other warm-up gongs, those lovely people at the Critics Choice Awards (well, if it's the critics association, some may say 'lovely' isn't the word) have handed out their own awards. Many of the same films nominated there as for today. Will the HFPA go the same way?

Hooray! I've been live blogging for less than ten minutes and we've already got our first scandal. Well, kind of. Seems that the Globes are being accused of corruption, and collusion, and of being irrelevent and insignificant. That is of course hardly news, more one of the juicy traditions that elevate the Globes above many of the other warm-up gongs!
