The City of Monash is one of Melbourne's most populous municipalities, with more than 177,000 residents calling the area home. It is located 20km south east of the CBD in Melbourne's fastest growing population corridor. Monash is a cosmopolitan city with 39.7% of its residents coming from more than 30 countries. The City has a highly skilled and well-educated workforce, with 13% having a degree or higher education. Its residents also enjoy a level of home ownership that is considerably higher than the Melbourne average.
Monash has some of Melbourne's best known landmarks within its 82 square kilometres, including the Monash Medical Centre, the Victoria Police Academy and Jells Park.
The City is also home to Melbourne's most substantial innovation cluster, with notable features including the Australian Synchrotron. Monash has also developed a reputation as a 'high tech' centre for industry with the headquarters of a number of major companies based in the area.
The City of Monash owns and opperates the three Aquatic and Leisure Centre's within the municipality. Monash Aquatic and Recreation Centre consists of 8 pools, Gymnasium and Group Exercise multi purpose rooms. Clayton Aquatics and Health Club resides within the Clayton Community Centre and has a 25 metre pool, Gymnasium and Group Exercise Room. The Oakleigh Recreation Centre has recently undergone an aquatics renovation and also consists of Gymnasium, Group Exercise and a 4 court stadium.
