WORKING FROM HOME

Full job description

Family Day Care Australia
Family day care is an approved form of early childhood education where educators work from their own home. Family day care educators work under an established family day care service in their local area who support them with training and guidance to begin providing personalised care to children within their own homes as a small business owner.
Family Day Care Australia is the national peak body for family day care in Australia. For more than 30 years, we have supported, represented and promoted the 450 childcare services and 11,500 educators across the country that make up the family day care sector.

We are seeking new educators from the early childhood education and care (ECEC) settings, or someone who is new to the sector and is working towards a certificate iii in ECEC all across NSW and in this region.

Our aim is to provide more Australian families with the opportunity to experience high quality learning and developmental outcomes within nurturing home environments and promote family day care as a career of choice.

Our passionate and qualified early childhood educators lead their family day care from the comfort of their own, educating and caring for small groups of children. This personalised approach to early childhood education and care fosters genuine lasting bonds between educators and families and gives parents peace of mind, knowing they’ve made the natural choice for their children.
What you can offer Family Day Care
About you:
You are passionate about working with children.

You want to shape young minds and provide children with the best start to life.

You have a unique set of skills that you can’t wait to share – maybe you’re an artist, a parent, a grandparent, an aunty, an uncle, a writer, a vet, an engineer!

About us:
We understand you want the best outcomes for children, and are maybe considering or are studying early childhood education and care.

We want to help you thrive.

Most of all, we know how much you are looking forward to becoming an educator!
What family day care can do for you
With the guidance of your approved family day care service and Family Day Care Australia, you’ll be assisted every step of the way in setting up, developing, marketing and launching your very own family day care business.

We are here to offer you the freedom and resources to build your dream family day care business and achieve the qualifications that will help you take the first step.

The initial interview process will give you insight into the family day care sector and give you the opportunity to ask questions, including what you’ll need to get started and the unique benefits for you, the children you will care for and the families you’ll support.

What will your day look like in family day care?
Family day care is your business and your home.

Like any small business, you get out what you put in, so planning is key!

Family Day Care Australia and your approved service will provide you with the training, tools, resources and support needed for you to set up, plan, go to market and open your doors.

As a family day care educator, your day starts planning and setting up a safe, fun, educational and nurturing environment where no two days are the same and where you and your children can discover new interests and activities.

Your home will be the foundation of their learning experiences. Your kitchen can be your science lab, your living room a spaceship; the possibilities are only limited by you and your children’s imaginations!

Your approved service, in addition to being part of the initial application and induction process, will complete regular visits to ensure you have what you need and are supported in the education and care you are providing.
What does the application and recruitment process look like to become a family day care educator?
Once you apply to become an educator you will need to have in place or work towards obtaining:

  • An approved Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care;
  • First Aid and CPR Certificate;
  • Training in the emergency management of asthma and anaphylaxis;
  • Appropriate clearance for working with children;
  • National Police Check within the last 6 months (Family Day Care Australia can provide this); and
  • Public liability insurance (Family Day Care Australia can provide this).
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen or hold a permanent resident visa

You will enter an initial interview process with FDCA including a review of the requirements listed above and what you need to work towards. Once completed FDCA will introduce you to your local family day care service of choice.

This will be followed by local interview process to review and assess your skills and background, along with a comprehensive home visit to help you get the best out of your environment.
