Your new company
Commercial law firm committed to providing exceptional legal strategies and solutions to clients, guided by market-leading expertise across their key sectors of focus. With staff in Melbourne and Sydney, they are committed to making a difference for their clients, providing opportunities for their people, and delivering lasting change for their community. Due to a period of substantial growth in both the private and public sector, they are seeking to appoint a Special Counsel or Senior Associate for their building and construction team, which sits within the broader Dispute Resolution team.

Your new role

  • Drafting and negotiating construction contracts and transaction documents.
  • Providing advice to clients on contract administration and claims.
  • Drafting pleadings and court documents
  • Providing support in large scale arbitration and litigation
  • Assisting with complex and multi-faceted contract dispute resolution
  • Other varied building, construction and project work
  • Preparing tenders
  • Developing precedents
  • Regular marketing and business development activities
  • Supervision and mentoring legal assistants, paralegals and junior lawyers
  • Participating in industry related programs
  • Developing strategic relationships and networks

What you'll need to succeed

  • 8 - 10 years PAE in building and construction (ideally front and back end)
  • Demonstrated in-depth experience gained in a mid to large sized law firm
  • Ideally an existing client base/contacts and a desire to grow and develop this further
  • Proficient knowledge of the security for payment legislation across Australia, Australian Standards Contracts, Building Act 1989 (NSW), Building Act 1993 (VIC), Home Building Regulation 2014 (NSW), Building Regulations 2018 (VIC), Domestic Building Contracts Act 1995 (VIC) National Construction Codes
  • Knowledge of Court and Tribunal rules and procedures
  • Strong technical, drafting and commercial skills
  • Exceptional analytical and communication skills
  • Demonstrated business development skills
  • Strong financial acumen and billing practices
  • Experience using Filesite preferred
