There were two serious crashes in the state on Thursday, with one resulting in the death of a 62-year-old man. On Thursday afternoon, a 37-year-old Legana man was driving a silver SUV north bound on the West Tamar Highway near Exeter. A 62-year-old man was behind the SUV riding a blue Harley Davidson motorcycle. The SUV driver made a right hand turn that resulted in the motorcycle crashing and the rider being thrown about five metres. The motorcycle rider was given first aid and taken to the Launceston General Hospital, but he died in transit. IN OTHER NEWS: Tasmania Police is still investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash, but speed does not appear to have been a factor. The driver of the SUV is assisting police with their investigations. Later on Thursday, two people were taken to hospital after a head-on crash on the Midland Highway and police are seeking information on the crash. The crash occurred about 9.55pm near Melton Mowbray, about 1.5 kilometres north of the Highland Lakes Road intersection. Initial investigations revealed a white Mitsubishi Triton utility crossed onto the southbound lane and continued to drive North, before colliding head on with a blue Honda CRV. RELATED: Both drivers were treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries, before being taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital for further treatment. Police want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the crash or the vehicle prior to it. As information provided to police suggests another vehicle may have narrowly missed the Mitsubishi Triton prior to the crash. Police are continuing to investigate and after any dash camera footage leading up to the crash.
