Wildcats championship coach Arnold dies

The Perth Wildcats will start their tenure in the new Perth Arena on a slightly sad note after 1991 championship coach Murray Arnold died on Wednesday in Florida.

Arnold, who came to the Wildcats after being an assistant coach at the NBA's Chicago Bulls, took over from Cal Bruton to coach the Wildcats to the second of their back-to-back titles.

The Wildcats' first game in the Arena tonight against the Adelaide 36ers is a sellout.

The Wildcats will wear black stripes on their singlets to honour Arnold.
